Whether you’re thinking about relocating to Galena, or you’ve been here all your life, you might have some questions regarding our Town. We hope this list of FAQs will provide you some answers.

Trash/Recycling service is provided by the town through Republic Services. Your property should have one 96 gallon blue container for household trash and one 96 gallon blue container with a green lid for recyclables. Trash pickup is every Thursday and Recyclable pickup is every other Thursday. For holiday pickup schedule please click here.

Galena Residents may purchase a Kent County recycling and Waste Disposal Coupon Booklet from the Town Office during normal business hours. For more information click here.

Water/Sewer bills are generated quarterly and will be mailed in January, April, July and October. Residents within town limits will be billed by the Town of Galena for water consumption. Bills are mailed out on or before the 15th of the month and can be paid by check, money order or cash by mailing to:

Properties with an existing tank must be managed and filled by the company who owns the tank.

Owners of any property abutting on a sidewalk are required to keep the sidewalk clear of all ice, snow and other obstructions.
Permits are needed for any type of building construction, fences, pools, solar panels, windows, and demolition. No building shall be erected, constructed, altered, moved, converted, extended or enlarged until a building permit is obtained from the Town Manager.

Zoning ordinance Article V- District regulationsCHICKENS are NOT permitted in town. Keeping of small animals, insects, reptiles, fish or birds are permitted, but only for personal enjoyment or household use and not as a business. This provision does not include poultry, or other edible fowl or swine.
Code: Chapter 44- Animals: Yes, there is a leash law. Owner's animals shall be under the immediate control by means of either a leash, cord, chain or otherwise.

Code: Chapter 167- Vehicles and Traffic: Parking of the following vehicles and vessels shall be prohibited on ALL TOWN STREETS:

(1) All commercial vehicles, except for purpose of making a delivery or provideing a service at the location.
(2) All trailers of any kind or length, including commercial, recreational, personal and utility vehicles.
(3) Boats, jet skis and any other recreational vehicle.
(4) All mobile homes, recreational vehicles (defined as motor vehicle or trailer equipped with living space and amenities found in a home), and 5th wheeled-vehicles.

Commercial Vehicle- Zoning Ordinance: Article V:

Off-street parking of one commercial vehicle shall be permitted as an accessory use in a residential property. However the commercial vehicle may not exceed nine (9) feet in height from the ground to the highest point on the roof structure not including the ladder, rack, etc. or twenty-three (23) feet in length from the bumper to bumper- excluding the hitch. Vehicle must be used actively by a full-time resident of the residential property which it is parked. Also, the vehicle shall be parked completely within the boundary lines of the lot on which the dwelling exists; with a four (4) foot setback from the property line.

Placement of a single boat and/or single boat trailer and/or utility trailer and/or a single recreational vehicle on a lot: Anywhere in the side or rear yard only, provided a minimum of a two foot set-back is maintained from adjacent property lines in its entirety.

It is unlawful for any minor under the age of 16 years to wander, stroll or play upon public streets, highway, roads, alleys, parks, playgrounds, or other public places and public buildings, places of amusement and entertainment, vacant lots or other unsupervised places within the corporate boundaries between the hours of:

A. Friday 11:00 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. Saturday.
B. Saturday : 11:00 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. Sunday.
C. Sunday through Thursday 10:00 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. the following morning.

The town does have a noise ordinance- Code: Chapter 118 Noise:

It is unlawful for any person, whether that person be a homeowner, owner, tenant, firm, or corporation, to cause a noise or sound violation.

No bicycles, skateboards, go-carts, motorized, or any similar type of vehicles will be allowed in the park. However, bicycles may be in designated bicycle racks or the rack area. Exception to this will be ADA manual or motorized equipment.

Code: Chapter 140 Skateboards:

It is unlawful for any person to ride, propel, push or otherwise operate a skateboard or any similar vehicle on any public walkway, street, alley, sidewalk, parking lot or public property.
